Broker dealers ask advisors to focus on value of life insurance for families by reinstating annual incentive program

SAN DIEGO – Oct. 29, 2014 – Sister companies, CUSO Financial Services, L.P. (CFS) and Sorrento Pacific Financial, LLC (SPF), full-service broker dealers and SEC Registered Investment Advisers providing customized investment and insurance solutions to financial institutions, announce the winners of their promotion to support Life Insurance Awareness Month. The individual advisor and financial institution team submitting the highest number of applications for life insurance throughout the duration of the contest were awarded.

The contest, which ran in support of the month branded by non-profit LIFE Foundation, was set up to promote the value of life insurance as an important component to safeguard a family’s financial future. Life Insurance Awareness Month spokesperson Boomer Esiason, a former NFL quarterback, inspired CFS/SPF to create football-themed prizes. Points were awarded for each policy submitted: one point for a term life policy, and three points for a permanent life policy. Every 6 points, or, “touchdown,” earned an advisor a $50 American Express gift card from CFS/SPF partner Imeriti Financial Network (IFN), a leading annuity and life insurance marketing organization. 

The top advisor, with 33 points, is Sylvia Ho with HawaiiUSA FCU, who wins a customized tailgate party package. Sylvia has been in financial services for more than 10 years and is a registered representative focusing on individual and small business retirement planning, education funding, and life and long term care insurance. She is securities registered in Hawaii, serving members at the Kahului and Kihei branches on Maui. She also won last year’s contest in a tie.

The top insurance-selling financial institution for the third year in a row is University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) in Texas, which wins a sports night pizza party grand prize. As a program, UFCU submitted a total of 44 life insurance applications. 

Aaron Persons, vice president, retail operations at UFCU, said “Our staff really embraced the competition this year! The expansion of our licensed platform makes it easier for our staff to provide members with the insurance coverage they need. We’re all very excited about the team party, but we’re challenging other financial institutions to try and win it away from us next year!”

The contest, which ran from Sept. 1 to Oct. 3, resulted in the submission of 271 life insurance applications from all participants. 

Manager of Insurance Services at CFS Lorraine Griswold says, “The purpose of this contest is to raise awareness of the importance of life insurance coverage as part of a comprehensive financial plan, and it is a fun way to remind advisors to talk to their clients about their insurance needs. We see 271 new applications as evidence that we’ve helped people prepare for the unexpected and better manage their financial options.”
